Yvel was set to be the toughest fight that Junior has had. A veteran of over fifty fights, Yvel was supposed to show the ruthlessness that he showed in PRIDE and his noteable wins over Pedro Rizzo and current UFC fighter Cheick Kongo. Instead the fight was getting called in little more than two minutes.</p> <p>Cigano took little damage in the fight, as he only received one punch that had good connection early in the first round. That punch seemed to wake dos Santos up, as he then began to control the fight with ease. While stalking Yvel around the octagon, you could tell it was only a matter of time before the much quicker puncher, dos Santos, would attack. </p> </p> <p>When dos Santos finally struck, he unleashed a flurry of punches where most of them connected. Yvel answered back with a flurry of his own, but most of his punches landed unsuccessfully. After that, dos Santos landed a kick and a nice right before taking a punch. After backing off for a few seconds, Cigano landed a counter left hook that dropped Yvel to the ground. Once he hit the floor, Junior unleashed some relentless bombs to the head, forcing referee Herb Dean to call the fight. </p> <p> Before the fight, Dana White said, “If Junior dos Santos goes in there and knocks this guy out, he’s there. He’s ready for that title shot.” While dos Santos may not get his shot at the title for now, he is definitely in the mix for the top contender spot.
