He boasts a record of 35-8-0, which include victories over current UFC fighters Chael Connen and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and a victory over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. Babalu’s losses (most being by decision) have come against some of the best the world has to offer, like Chuck Liddel, Fedor Emelianenko, Dan Henderson, and Gegard Mousasi. Sobral was a dominant wrestler before he got into Mixed Martial Arts. In fact, he was a Brazilian National Wrestling Champion before joining the Gracie Barra Combat Team. He was trained early on in Ruas Vale Tudo, which is one of the first MMA styles that focused on the athlete becoming a complete fighter instead of just focusing on one discipline. Babalu started off his career 12-0, mainly fighting in organizations in Brazil and Japan. He had a 19-3 record before finally getting a shot in the UFC. In his first stint in the UC, he lost to of his three matches to top level fighter in the UFC , including Chuck Liddell. He then fought in a few other organizations, where he went 7-1, before the UFC gave him another call to come fight for them. He went 4-2 in this stint, but was released for not follwing referee orders. Sobral has since gone 4-2, including his win over Bobby Southworth for the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship. Sobral doesn’t have an exclusive contract with Strikeforce, so he is allowed to fight in any organization that wants him, so you can expect some big things out of Babalu coming up. |
